2025 Collaborative All-Member Exhibition

Where:  Becket Arts Center, 7 Brooker Hill Road, Becket, Massachusetts

When:   May 16th through June 8th, 2025

Gallery Hours:  Wednesdays – Sundays 12:00pm – 4:00pm

What is the Collaborative Project?

You will work with another mosaic artist of your choosing to create two original mosaics. Each artist starts a piece and completes one half of a mosaic. Then you send your half-finished mosaic to your partner who will finish the mosaic you started. So each artist has the experience of starting a mosaic and finishing a mosaic started by a partner. The challenge for the second artist is to decide whether to compliment or contrast the style of the first mosaicist. This is an interesting way to work as it disrupts your usual flow.
The 2 finished mosaics will be hung next to each other in the exhibition along with a printed image of the half finished mosiac hanging beside each piece.

CALL TO ART SUBMISSION DEADLINE WAS JANUARY 7th, 2025

In celebration of our 10th Anniversary, the New England Mosaic Society is delighted to present “Ten Years On The Cutting Edge”, a juried exhibition featuring the work of our members.
Since 2015, the New England Mosaic Society has been promoting mosaics as a fine art, through exhibitions, quality educational programming, and the chance to share techniques and experiences within an encouraging and supportive group. Whether a professional artist or a novice, all people who share our passion about this medium are welcome to join, and we now have over 140 members throughout New England.
Over our ten years together, we’ve been heartened by the wonderful responses we have received from viewers whose past experiences of mosaics may have been limited to examples from ancient history. But, as many have discovered, mosaics as an art form is constantly stretching and expanding to be used in endlessly different ways. This exhibition features work made from multitudes of materials, used in unexpected and compelling ways, which completely relate to our current world and circumstances.
We are thrilled to be presenting our members’ latest creations in this beautiful space at The Art Complex Museum.

The New England Mosaic Society 2024 All Member Exhibition

Exhibition Dates: October 19th – December 14th, 2024

From the Roman mosaic interiors of Pompeii, to the gold flecked ceilings of Byzantine churches in Ravenna, Italy, to the exquisitely preserved tile floors of Zeugma, Turkey, mosaics have been important clues to our understanding of ancient cultures. The enduring quality of these amazing works of mosaic art have allowed us to see how these ancient civilizations lived, loved, warred and died.
For over ten years, the New England Mosaic Society has brought together mosaic artists who are using this medium to express modern life; creating work as technically masterful, creatively constructed, and relevant as anything being done elsewhere in the world.
Please join us for an exhibition of work by our talented members, a group of American mosaic artists pushing the boundaries of this amazing medium, continually exploring how an ancient art form can be imbued with contemporary spirit.

“Take Me Away!”

A NEMS juried, virtual exhibition!

The Virtual Reception took place on June 3rd, 2021

The New England Mosaic Society is excited to introduce our first ever themed exhibition! The theme of this exhibit, “Take Me Away!”, comes from our current feelings of isolation and the need to travel.  The travel restrictions of COVID have us reminiscing of where we have been, and dreaming of the next place we want to explore. “Take Me Away!”  must incorporate the theme and be inspired by images you have taken on vacation or places you look forward to going when COVID is behind us. For some, the place you choose as your subject matter could be across the globe, and for others it could be down the street. For some it could be a landscape, for others it could be a portrait, or any interpretation of where you would love to be. It could be realistic or abstract. The theme is open to your interpretation. When completed, this exhibition will be a collection of memories, inspirations or future visions. This exhibition is a juried exhibition.

The New England Mosaic Society would like to announce our Members’ Online Exhibit Spring 2020, a virtual art show to present and share our mosaic art. During this tough time while COVID19 spreads throughout the country, we’d like to find a way to connect, support each other, and come together as a community. While this is a challenging time for many, we hope that this also an opportunity to use your artwork as a comforting and creative outlet.

We realize that the online viewing experience cannot replace a physical art show. However, since the exhibit will be online, it also gives us the opportunity to have higher exposure than our usual exhibitions. We are depending upon members to help spread the word about the show to a wider community through everyone’s social media platforms.

With your application, each member can submit up to three recent original works. Please do not include submissions previously exhibited in a NEMS show. From your submission, the jury will select one to two pieces for the show. Artwork will be judged on technique, composition, design, and use of materials.

We will carry on the tradition of recognizing excellence in mosaics by offering awards. The awards will be chosen by the judges, except for the People’s Choice award which will be selected by the visitors to the exhibition.
